Downtown Engagement Session – Emily & Aaron – Capitol Building

As the sun shone the last of the day’s golden rays on the Capitol Building in Downtown Raleigh, the couple walked, holding hands and smiling, for their engagement session. The soft fabric of her dress floated on the breeze. The Spring weather held the promise of warmth and sunshine to come.

The couple shared the story of how they met, plans for their wedding day, and gave me a glimpse into their life as a couple preparing for marriage while living in different states. We talked about family and faith and travels, they laughed at my jokes, and were generally just good natured, lovely people.

I have been wanting to photograph at this downtown location for a while, and I’m glad this couple said “yes!” I just love how the golden hour sun reflected softly off the stone, giving a warmth and timelessness to the images. I’m a sucker for stone architectural details and the old-fashioned lights!

I love it when couples dress up for their engagement photos! That’s why I send out a style guide to all my couples before their sessions. They look so classic and beautiful and it makes the images special. And her pink dress? Swoon! I have to admit that I gave a little squeal of delight when I saw them walking toward me.
